Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning

The following are a few examples of Athena Engineering, Inc.’s Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning Projects:

One of our most recent projects, this brand new facility for the Los Angeles Unified School District includes a ground up, multi-story high school campus comprised of a gym, classrooms and administration buildings.

Athena Engineering, Inc. is responsible for the mechanical scope of work at this new flagship campus for the district. Check back for pictures of the project’s progress.

Athena Engineering, Inc. is responsible for the mechanical HVAC scope of work and building automation security, access and mechanical controls at this ground-up Catholic educational facility.

The project includes a multi-story new building with subterranean parking, a 40-classroom building, kitchen, playground and office space. Richard Chiera, the on-staff LEED Accredited Professional, is responsible for managing this project and maintaining all LEED requirements. The building is slated for completion in October 2010.

Athena Engineering, Inc. is responsible for several key aspects of this project:

  • Exhaust in the parking garage
  • HVAC for the entire project
  • Mechanical piping
  • Air distribution
  • All building controls, including security integration, access controls and mechanical HVAC controls

Athena Engineering, Inc. completed an addition of a new 294-cell housing building (173,000 square feet) with adjacent support functions for transport holding, administrative offices and other workspaces. A separate central plant building containing mechanical equipment to serve the housing building was also included.

Our team was responsible for creating information modeling using leading-edge software. Completing all our CADD drawings in-house allowed our team to better coordinate installation. We were able to account for locations with limited space and access for installation, creating a more efficient workflow.

This project had several unique considerations. The facility requires both internal and external concealment of equipment, air diffuser and ducting to protect the system from view and physical contact by building. In addition, the entire system is subject to weather conditions and outdoor ambient temperature.

The scope of work at Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility included the installation of new equipment, including McQuay rooftop air handlers, chillers, ducting, new mechanical piping and valves, and mechanical insulation.
